What is HLD

High-level design deals with how a system is put together at the architecture level, rather than inside a single class. This track covers scalability, load balancing, caching, database sharding, and the trade-offs between consistency and availability in distributed systems.

Notes here favor reasoning through trade-offs over memorizing a fixed architecture, since most real systems land on a different point in that trade-off space depending on their constraints.
